EC&O Venues supports Good Citizens Awards

07/07/2006

Local children have been recognised at a Good Citizenship Award ceremony organised by the Metropolitan Police Service, which took place at Olympia Exhibition Centre on 6 July, 2006. Hosted by EC&O Venues, the awards were attended by 70 local school children, their parents and teachers.

Part-funded by a donation from the Earls Court & Olympia Charitable Trust, the scheme encourages and rewards good citizenship in secondary school age children and is designed to recognise those who make a positive contribution to society and to raise awareness amongst young people of their responsibilities as citizens. Students from Holland Park Comprehensive School and Cardinal Vaughan School took part in the scheme.

Debbie Law, Olympia’s Director of Customer Services, representing the Earls Court & Olympia Charitable Trust said:

“We are delighted to have been able to help fund this worthwhile project and also to host the presentation evening at Olympia. The Trustees agreed unanimously to support this project as good relations between the Police and schoolchildren is a high priority. We hope the project will continue to help young people in the area understand the benefits of being a good citizen.”

The students were presented with £60 worth of gift vouchers after being judged against many criteria, including interaction with fellow students, managing conflict and acts of kindness or bravery.

Chief Inspector Kiddle, from the Metropolitan Police commented:

“I’d like to thank Earls Court & Olympia for their hospitality this evening. The donation from the Trust meant we could continue this successful scheme for a second year. Feedback from local residents has been extremely positive, with a high amount praising the recent improvement in the behaviour of young people in the area. We hope that this scheme will increase confidence and respect among students as well as respect for local police.”
