18/08/2007
Within the events industry, EC&O Venues has take a ‘leadership position’ on sustainability – winning awards, publishing a Social, Ethical and Environmental Report, developing an environmental policy and helping develop and trial BS 8901, the events industry draft standard on sustainability. All this is backed up by the real actions the venue has taken (and the savings made) in terms of recycling, energy efficiency, water conservation and waste management.
Many of EC&O’s customers are now looking at ways of making their events more sustainable and, increasingly, are asking what the venues can do and what facilities are in place to help them achieve their sustainability objectives. As a result Emma Wellman, Halls Services Manager at Olympia, has been appointed Sustainability Advisor for both Earls Court and Olympia, acting as customer liaison on these issues as well as being the in-house proponent of industry best practice.
Emma will be preparing summaries of EC&O’s position on sustainability, what the venues do and the assistance the EC&O teams can provide, and will be in a position to answer all questions – from customers or EC&0 employees – on the subject. She also chairs the AEV Sustainability Working Group and has been heavily involved in the development of BS8901, launched at the Brewery, City of London, on November 12 2007.
