Earls Court appears on new version of Monopoly

26/06/2006

Earls Court has been included on the new ‘Here and Now’ version of the world famous Monopoly board after the public voted for their favourite London places for each new square.

The new game has undergone a dramatic transformation to take into account rising property prices in the capital. Parker, the game’s makers, and property website Rightmove.co.uk devised two options for each square after evaluating property prices and then asked the public to choose their preferred properties.

Chris Weatherhead, spokesperson for Parker, said:

“The new places were loosely based on popular tourist attractions and sparked a national debate as to which places should have been selected for the board.”

Anthony Lyons, CEO, EC&O Venues, said:

“We are delighted that Earls Court appears on this new version of Monopoly. Earls Court is about the same age as the game and this updated version reflects the venue’s relevance to the 21st century as a favourite London landmark, and, in context, its value as a property.”

The values of the squares in the new game have increased considerably but the makers have kept the ratios between values constant in order to maintain its character and balance. Clearly, £1.2m for Earls Court would be – to say the least - something of a steal.
