A rock and roll year for Earls Court London

01/06/2006

Earls Court, the UK’s largest indoor arena, started its rock and roll year with a bang when Give It A Name, the two day indoor rock festival, came to London. Organised by promoter SJM Concerts, the festival saw around 26,000 emotional rock (emo-rock) fans enjoy a battle of the bands and performances from headline acts such as My Chemical Romance, Taking Back Sunday and Lostprophets on 29 and 30 April, 2006.

In a first for the Earls Court arena, the production for Give It A Name was minimal, with no seating on the ground floor, giving the promoter huge flexibility to place merchandising and catering outlets, as well as providing a large, open space in which the mainly teenage audience could dance.

Johnny Phillips of SJM Concerts commented;

“We chose Earls Court to host Give It A Name for three reasons; its size, its central London location and the experience of its staff. We needed a venue with the capacity for 13,000 visitors each day, but more importantly with the experience to run a rock festival properly.”

It’s testament to the venue’s flexibility that indoor festivals such as Give It A Name work just as well as concerts with high production values like the Red Hot Chili Peppers, due to play this July. Suzie Pollock, EC&O Venues Music and Entertainment Manager said;

“As the stage and seating are purpose-built for each special event, promoters have the freedom to choose how the arena is set up and can tailor it exactly to their requirements and their audience. This combined with the experience and expertise of the Earls Court technical and customer services teams, means that all types of music event work brilliantly at the venue.”

The extensive range of international artists and music events at Earls Court in 2006 all go to prove that the best in rock and pop all feel at home in the arena. The Red Hot Chili Peppers will play four nights in July; George Michael brings his first tour in 15 years to London for four nights in November and heavy rock legends Iron Maiden take to the Earls Court stage for two nights in December.

The Earls Court calendar of music events includes:

Red Hot Chili Peppers, 14, 15, 17 and 18 July, 2006
George Michael, 25, 26, 28 and 29 November, 2006
Iron Maiden, 22 – 23 December, 2006
